Verizon disruptions are impacting numerous customers. The telecommunications company has acknowledged the issue but didn't provide specific details.

"Verizon engineering teams are continuing to address today's service interruptions," the company noted.

"Our teams remain fully deployed and are focused on the issue. We understand the impact this has on your day and remain committed to resolving this as quickly as possible," the statement reads.

As reported by Downdetector, an outage tracking website, Verizon users began noticing problems on Wednesday by around 12pm. However, reports of outages hit nearly 180,000 by 12:39pm.

Most reports to Downdetector originated from Eastern Seaboard cities, but significant outages were also reported in cities like Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, San Francisco, and Portland, Oregon.

Some X (formerly Twitter) users posted memes during the outage.

Moreover, two major cities sent out alerts as the outages persisted.

On X, New York City's Emergency Management office informed residents they are "collaborating closely with our partners at OTI and various utility providers to evaluate potential impacts on city agencies and essential services."

"We are also gathering information and updates from the affected network providers. The cause and scope of the outage are still being investigated," the statement added.

Washington, D.C.'s public safety department stated the outages were "nationwide."

"OUC is aware of a nationwide Verizon outage affecting some users trying to reach 911," the agency said in a post on X.

"If you have an emergency and cannot connect using your Verizon device, please connect using a device from another carrier, a landline, or go to a police or fire station to report the emergency," the post reads.
