Florida mom Kimberley Mills gets life for son's murder
Authorities suspect that the father played the main role in the abuse
A Florida mother, Kimberley Mills, will serve a life sentence after being convicted of causing her 10-year-old son, Xavier Williams's death, having left him at the hospital while CPR was being performed on his injured body.
Kimberley, 38, entered a no-contest plea to charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, alongside other allegations, in the tragic passing of her son, according to state prosecutors.
She received a life imprisonment sentence on Wednesday. As part of her plea, she is obligated to testify against her partner, 37-year-old Andre Walker, at his trial scheduled for later this year
Authorities suspect he played the main role in the abuse. Xavier's father, Keniel Williams, shared how deeply his child's death has affected him.
"I have sleepless nights. I got pictures of the family that I just can't delete out of my phone. I just can't.
"I'm not just talking about pictures of my son, there's pictures of her," he stated, gesturing towards Mills.
"In this case we weren't married, and to see that Xavier was taken away from us, it's hard. It's very hard to cope with.
"It is very hard to even function at work. It's just hard to live, sometimes without end."
Mills’ lawyer indicated that her guilty plea was driven by various reasons, chiefly her desire to prevent her surviving child from the trauma of testifying against her.
Bill Gladson, the State Attorney of the Fifth Judicial Circuit, expressed that the plea agreement aims to ensure those accountable for Xavier’s death face justice.
"Mills' plea, which includes truthful testimony against her co-defendant, strengthens our ability to pursue that goal and ensures the full story is brought before the court," he mentioned.
"In doing so, Mills will spend the rest of her life incarcerated. I have no doubt she will think of Xavier every waking day and regret the pain and suffering she made him endure while she repeatedly endures her own."
As Law&Crime previously shared, both Mills and Walker rushed her son to a local Tavares hospital on February 22, 2025, following his cardiac arrest.
Medical staff observed multiple bruises on his body, in addition to burn marks and signs suggesting possible sexual abuse.
"Both Kimberley and the male left the hospital after learning that law enforcement was responding to the hospital, all while the juvenile was undergoing CPR in the Emergency Department," officers stated in a press release.
The mother came back to the hospital shortly afterwards, accompanied by another child, but Walker never returned, as per police reports.
Mills allegedly did not cooperate with officers, declining to share Walker's location or identify him.
Eventually, she revealed Walker's identity to the Department of Children and Families, prompting an arrest warrant, officials stated.
Investigators searched Mills’ residence, seized essential items of evidence, and confirmed Walker's identity.
He was subsequently apprehended. Both have remained in custody since their arrests.
Xavier remained on life support for approximately a month before passing away on March 21, 2025.
Walker is scheduled for a court appearance on January 20.
