OpenAI data reveals record surge in business investments on AI models

OpenAI is way ahead of competitors like Anthropic and Google in the enterprise AI sector, as suggested by recent data this week.

This contrasts with some concerns that have emerged since Google's Gemini chatbot started catching up with ChatGPT a few months back.

This information originates from Ramp, a startup that assists companies with financial management.

Ramp evaluates corporate card transactions and billing activities on its platform from over 50,000 American firms to monitor billions expended monthly on AI services.

The current figures highlight December 2025. The findings demonstrate OpenAI' regained traction among US companies, marking its highest growth in several months as corporate AI adoption overall gains momentum.

The portion of US companies investing in AI products and services increased to 46.6% in December, representing an uptick of 1.6% points from November.

According to Ramp's data, this marked the most substantial month-to-month growth since mid-2025.

OpenAI was a significant driver of this expansion. Business use of OpenAI solutions rose two percentage points to 36.8%, undoing a temporary slowdown in the fall and achieving a new peak.

Ramp's detailed insights show advancements in both enterprise chat subscriptions and API usage, indicating wider OpenAI utilisation by office personnel and technical teams.

The exact number of OpenAI's active paying users is uncertain, but the company reported in November 2025 that it had 1 million business clients.

Meanwhile, Anthropic's penetration grew to 16.7%, mainly within tech companies that are extensively leveraging APIs.

Google's AI acceptance rose to 4.3%, a figure Ramp suggests may underrepresent usage since many companies access Gemini without cost through Google Workspace subscriptions.
