Timothée Chalamet reveals receiving big threat during 'Marty Supreme' shoot
The Golden Globe winner shares an unexpected revelation during a Q&A session with Robert Downey Jr.
Timothée Chalamet has shared an unexpected moment from the set of Marty Supreme, revealing that a background actor once threatened him during filming.
The 30-year-old actor made the disclosure during a Q&A with Robert Downey Jr. on Wednesday, January 14, at New York’s DGA Theater, reflecting on an intense scene shot inside a motel.
Chalamet said the sequence involved several non-actors, which he usually finds “thrilling” to work with, though it can take extra effort to draw out authentic reactions.
While trying to provoke anger from one background performer for the scene, Chalamet said his approach backfired.
After several takes, the man responded bluntly: “I was just in jail for 30 years. You really don’t want to f**k with me. You don’t want to see me angry.”
The exchange caught Chalamet off guard. “I said to Josh, ‘Holy s—t, who do you have me opposite, man?’” he recalled with a laugh, referring to director Josh Safdie.
Marty Supreme, which follows the rise of an American table tennis prodigy, has become a standout of the awards season. Chalamet has already won both a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award for his performance as Marty Mauser.
The film, which also stars Odessa A’zion, Gwyneth Paltrow and Fran Drescher, continues to generate buzz, with Safdie recently revealing that Robert Pattinson makes a secret voice-only cameo a hidden detail even many viewers have missed.
