Did A$AP Rocky’s mom push him to date Rihanna?

A$AP Rocky shared that his mom, Renee Black, always encouraged him to date Rihanna long before she became the rapper’s partner and the mother of his children.

“My mother used to say s–t like, ‘I know you like this girl that you [are] with right now’ — I ain’t gon’ say no names — ‘but I want you with RiRi,'” he shared on the latest episode of The New York Times’ “Popcast.”

“It’s like, ‘Ma, why you keep saying that? That girl don’t even want me like that,'” he recounted.

“Mothers know best,” he admitted, adding,“I’m thankful that [Rihanna] was put in my life at that time because any time prior to that I don’t think I was ready for something like that. I don’t think she was either.”

At 37, both Rocky and Rihanna were great friends for nearly ten years before turning their friendship into romance in 2020.

Elsewhere in the interview, the “ASAP Forever” artist said Rihanna “was always my boo,” and he “always f—ed with her.”

“We were on the same page. Born the same year. My dad is from her country … When I go back, I get to see both sides of my family. It’s so many similarities, it’s just funny. We laugh about it a lot,” he described.

The duo has welcomed three kids together since the beginning of their romance: sons RZA Athelston, 3, and Riot Rose, 2; and their daughter, Rocki Irish, who is 4 months old.

And it looks like the couple might not stop growing their family. Earlier this week, Rihanna hinted she’s ready for baby No. 4.

The “Love on the Brain” singer was seen in the comments of “Love Island” star Montana Brown’s post contemplating whether she wanted to “get hot and sexy or get pregnant in 2026.”

“Wait! So I’m not crazy then? Bet!” the “Umbrella” star responded to Brown’s post.
