Netflix removes casting feature without prior notice

Netflix made the unexpected decision to discontinue a significant feature suddenly and without prior notice.
The video streaming platform removed the option to cast from its mobile applications to numerous smart TVs and streaming devices.
Now, casting is only operational on older Chromecast models without remotes, Nest Hub displays, and certain Vizio and Compal smart TVs.
This marks a notable shift for the company. Before these updates, Netflix allowed casting to a broad range of devices that utilised Google’s casting technology, including Android TVs from brands like Philips, Polaroid, Sharp, Skyworth, Soniq, Sony, Toshiba, and Vizio.
The company didn't stop at just that change. Previously, Netflix offered something called “Netflix 2nd Screen” casting on a broader array of devices, including Sony's PlayStation, LG and Samsung TVs, Roku TVs, and various other devices.
As a result, Netflix and YouTube began collaborating and persuaded TV companies like Sony and Samsung to join their project.
In 2012, Netflix became the first major streaming service to introduce casting to its mobile app, initially enabling PlayStation 3 owners to play videos from their phones.
For some time, casting was immensely popular. Google managed to sell over 100 million Chromecast devices, and Vizio even designed an entire TV that centered on casting, opting for a tablet instead of a standard remote.
With smart TVs becoming more sophisticated and streaming services focusing on native apps for these TVs, the demand for casting has gradually lessened.
