Zayn Malik debuts four new songs at Las Vegas residency kickoff
Former One Direction member set for seven-show run at Dolby Live
Zayn Malik has thrilled his fans with a surprise performance in Las Vegas.
The Dusk-Till-Dawn artist, now 33, started the first of his seven Vegas residency concerts at Dolby Live in Park MGM, showcasing a mix from his music collection, including latest tracks, older hits, and even some previously unheard songs.
"I've been in the studio a bit, got a new record for you guys now, pretty soon. I'm really excited about that, and obviously, we're going to be playing you some new songs tonight that you’ve never heard before," he teased early on as fans affectionately "woofed" at him, as has become tradition at his concerts.
Appearing on stage in a striking blue military-style jacket adorned with gold epaulettes, Malik energetically opened with "She" from his first album, Mind of Mine.
Not too long after, the soulful singer shifted the tempo to what he described as the “emotional” segment of the evening, delivering crowd-pleasers like "Scripted" and "Lied To," with lyrics showcased on the large displays behind him and alongside the stage.
"Let's slow the pace and dive deep into our feelings," the "Borders" singer explained.
During his sensual performance of "It’s You," a solo spotlight focused on Malik while fluid green visuals, reminiscent of the Northern Lights, played on the screen behind him.
As the 80-minute performance progressed, Malik fulfilled his promise of new material by introducing several never-before-heard tracks, titled "Used to the Blues," "Die For Me," "Fatal," and "Take Turns."
He also debuted his live rendition of "Drunk" from his inaugural album.
The opening show took place as Malik was recovering from an illness, confiding to the audience about battling a sinus infection for two weeks. Between songs, he often took sips of tea.
