Florida police offer $5,000 reward in search for boy accused of stomping duck
Fort Lauderdale Police Department identifies child as suspect in aggravated animal cruelty case
Authorities are on the lookout for a boy suspected of stomping a duck to death, an incident captured on video.
The purported act of animal cruelty took place near the 300 block of Southwest 8th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on January 18, and a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest, CBS News Miami reports.
The child was videotaped rushing towards the duck alongside another youngster.
He pursued the duck, captured it, and stomped on it seven times, leading to the duck’s demise, as reported by CBS News Miami.
Residents have noted a reduction in duck numbers in the area since this event, and it’s considerably quieter now.
Local resident Dan Burkett labeled the act of cruelty as “savage,” stating, “I appreciate someone stepped in, but it’s truly heartbreaking to witness such events happening where I live,” according to Local 10.
Viewer Tyler Sutten described it as "an extremely unsettling scene," as NBC 6 reports.
If anyone can identify the boy or his family, they should contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department's Animal Cruelty Unit or Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493‑TIPS. Informants can choose to stay anonymous.
