California firefighter allegedly kills wife after diary discovery
Andrew Jimenez faces allegations of murdering his wife, Mayra
A firefighter from the Los Angeles region is suspected of fatally assaulting his wife after finding her diary.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a call was made by a man asking officers to check on his wife in their North Hollywood residence.
Officers soon discovered a deceased woman, Mayra Jimenez, 55, who had suffered severe blunt injuries. The LAPD identified Andrew Jimenez, 45, the husband of Mayra Jimenez, as the main suspect.
"The investigation showed that the victim and suspect were married, suggesting a domestic violence case," the LAPD stated in a press release.
Fox 11, KTLA and KABC reported on Andrew's role as a firefighter paramedic for the Glendale Fire Department.
Andrew is imprisoned on murder suspicion with a $2 million bail, as stated by the LAPD. It remains uncertain whether formal charges have been made.
Reports from Fox 11 indicated that investigators suspect Mayra was killed with an axe. Andrew's lawyer mentioned the possibility of an affair in conversations with KTLA and KABC.
“Our office is currently in contact with law enforcement regarding a diary of the decedent, apparently read moments before the homicide, that verified infidelity by the decedent," the attorney reportedly noted.
The Glendale Fire Department, where Andrew has served since 2008, stated he was placed on administrative leave and relieved of his duties, as reported by the outlets.
KTLA shared that prior to her passing, Mayra represented United Teachers Los Angeles as a union official.
