Mike Myers returns to 'SNL' as Elon Musk for Trump Awards Show
Melania’s absence was striking as every SNL cast member got opportunity to portray
The shooting of an American by federal officers in Minneapolis today was not included in SNL‘s opening skit tonight.
Instead, the show ran with more Trump-focused humour, featuring some familiar faces.
“This is truly a unique evening, and everyone wants to leave with a Trump, except Melania,” said Saturday Night Live’s James Austin Johnson impersonating a boastful Trump as part of “The 1st Annual Trumps” awards segment.
Premiering her self-titled documentary directed by Brett Ratner at the White House tonight, the mostly absent First Lady was conspicuously missing in this evening’s opening.
Melania’s absence was striking as almost every SNL cast member got the opportunity to portray one of the administration’s supporters or friends — including a guest appearance from Loki the God of Mischief playing Trump’s agent.
However, the main attraction was Mike Myers returning as Elon Musk — even if his appearance was brief.
The short-lived highlight of the skit touched on Trump’s various faults and issues (like that Nobel Prize), with the SNL legend and proud Canadian returning as Twitter’s eccentric owner to “receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for comedy, even if not all his actions are intentional,” as per Johnson’s Trump introducing “My former close friend Elon Musk.”
“I’m incredibly indifferent to be here, and if anyone appreciates humor, it’s me,” Myers’ Musk said before introducing “Carrie Underwood and the Village People’s construction worker” for “a solemn version of the America’s Funniest Home Videos theme.”
Truth be told, on another sorrowful day in America, the skit’s opening tonight was lacking, despite Myers being present.
Hosted by One Battle After Another star and fresh Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor, tonight’s SNL airs following another incident where Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis fatally shot an American citizen on Saturday.
Captured on numerous videos, the death of Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse, prompted the Trump administration to label him a “domestic terrorist.”
