Dr Saurabh Sethi ranks ten common foods for weight loss success
Eggs earned a perfect score for providing maximum satiety and reducing daily cravings
Achieving weight loss is often described as a mammoth task, primarily because it requires a delicate balance between a calorie deficit and satisfying meals.
To simplify this journey, Dr Saurabh Sethi, a distinguished gastroenterologist trained at Harvard and Stanford, shared a definitive ranking of ten common foods on Saturday, scoring them based on their effectiveness for shedding pounds.
Topping the list with a perfect 10/10 are eggs, which Dr Sethi praises for their high protein content and ability to provide "maximum satiety," effectively crushing cravings.
Close behind with scores of 9/10 are Greek yoghurt, dahi, lean chicken, and fish. These options are celebrated for filling the body up without an onslaught of excess calories, while yoghurt offers the added benefit of gut health.
Plant-based staples like legumes and non-starchy vegetables earned a solid 8/10 due to their fibre and volume.
However, the rankings take a sharp dive when it comes to processed goods. White bread and rice scored a mere 2/10 for offering "low satiety," while packaged snacks bottomed out at 1/10.
The ultimate dietary offender, according to Dr Sethi, is sugary drinks, which received a 0/10.
He warned that these liquid calories provide “zero fullness” and act as “liver poison.”
While nuts and seeds are nutritious, their high calorie density earned them a 6/10, with the doctor advising a limit of one handful daily.
Ultimately, success lies in choosing nutrient-dense foods that keep you fuller for longer.
