Jason Momoa calls ‘Stargate Atlantis’ his acting college
The series ran from 2004 to 2009, featuring stars including Joe Flanigan, Torri Higginson, and Rachel Luttrell
Jason Momoa reflects fondly on his early days on Stargate Atlantis, calling the sci-fi series “like going to college” for his acting career.
The 46-year-old actor, promoting his new film The Wrecking Crew, explained that joining season 2 in 2005 gave him a crash course in television production and physical performance.
“It was four years of my life—you do 22 episodes, roughly nine months out of the year, and you're pretty much dedicated to that. You're really seeing how everything moves. It moves very quickly,” Momoa told MovieZine.
The show also helped him cut his teeth as an action star. “Our stunt coordinators were amazing. It gave me a time to grow as an actor and learn all the things I wanted to do as a stunt performer—like samurai films and all the things I loved when I was a kid,” he said. Momoa added that the experience allowed him “freedom to go play” and make mistakes without the pressure of a big movie set.
Momoa remains grateful to Stargate Atlantis fans, particularly for their support of his character, Ronon Dex.
“They’ve stood with me through everything, and the sci-fi community has just been the best,” he shared.
The series ran from 2004 to 2009, featuring stars including Joe Flanigan, Torri Higginson, Rachel Luttrell, Rainbow Sun Francks, and David Hewlett, with Momoa joining in its second season.
