Infant found 'unrestrained' in car speeding through record-setting snowstorm
Kierra Taylor was caught driving at 103 mph in a 55 mph zone during heavy snowfall
A 24-year-old woman in North Carolina was arrested on Saturday, 31 January, after allegedly driving at 103 mph through a record-breaking snowstorm with an unrestrained one-year-old in the back seat.
Kierra Taylor, of Goldsboro, was intercepted by a Johnston County sheriff’s deputy on Highway 70, where the speed limit is just 55 mph.
The arrest occurred during some of the state’s heaviest snowfall since 2004, which has caused over 1,000 collisions and two fatalities.
Not only was the speed nearly double the legal limit, but Taylor’s blood alcohol content was reportedly measured at 0.33 during a roadside test—more than four times the legal driving limit.
Shockingly, the infant was discovered "unrestrained in a child seat" as the vehicle sped through the treacherous conditions.
Taylor has been charged with driving while impaired, speeding, child abuse, and reckless driving.
She was held at the Johnston County Detention Centre on a $2,500 bond, while the baby was safely collected by family members.
The incident prompted a stern warning from local authorities, who urged residents to stay home as record snowfall left thousands without power.
North Carolina Transportation Secretary Daniel Johnson stressed the danger of the current conditions, advising that anyone who must drive should "slow down and give other cars... and other first responders lots of distance."
