Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother Nancy missing, Sheriff urgently searching
The American broadcaster and journalist's mother has been reported missing
Savannah Guthrie‘s 84-year-old mother Nancy has been reported missing, as per the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Chris Nanos informed the press at a briefing this evening that Guthrie’s mother was last seen by relatives around 9:30 or 9:45pm the previous night.
Deputies searched for her tonight and are requesting the public’s assistance in finding Guthrie. Neighbours and professional search and rescue dogs are also participating in the efforts.
“We frequently receive such calls, and we excel at inspecting the area,” he mentioned, “but this situation was different due to what was described and discovered at the location.”
When questioned about why homicide detectives were involved and if that is a usual practice, the sheriff responded, “It isn’t typical. Normally, our homicide unit is involved when there’s a homicide case, a body.”
He mentioned that although no body has been discovered, the homicide team was involved this time “because of what the scene revealed to us.” They are in the process of “analysing” the scene.
“My hope is that we find her unharmed, but we must consider the evidence before us.”
Pima County is located in southern Arizona and is adjacent to the Mexican border. Highlighting the cold night air, Sheriff Nanos expressed worry for an elderly individual in poor physical health being outside throughout the night.
“She does not have any cognitive problems,” stated the sheriff, “just a few physical limitations affecting her mobility.”
Considering these concerns, he added, “We are utilising all available resources for this situation.”
