Savannah Guthrie urges action after mother’s possible kidnapping
Investigators have designated Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona residence as crime scene
Today host Savannah Guthrie is speaking publicly for the first time since her mother, Nancy Guthrie, vanished and was potentially taken against her will.
Savannah commented on Nancy's disappearance via an Instagram post on Monday (February 2), expressing gratitude to her supporters for their prayers. "We have faith in prayer. We believe in communities coming together, in love, in hope. We trust in kindness," Savannah wrote in the post's caption. "We trust in humanity. Above all, we trust in Him."
She added, "Thank you for joining your prayers with ours for our cherished mom, our dear Nancy, a woman of strong principles, a devoted and sincere follower. Join us in prayer and believe with us that she will be uplifted by them at this moment."
Savannah continued her post by quoting a scripture from Isaiah 26:3. “He will grant perfect peace to those whose hearts remain steady, trusting in the Lord," she wrote. "A passage from Isaiah for all ages and all of us."
"Bring her home," concluded the caption of the post.
The TV host's 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared on Jan. 31, leading the Pima County Sheriff's Department in Arizona to start a search the following day.
She was last spotted at her home near East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue around 9:30pm.
Sheriff Chris Nanos disclosed during a press conference on Sunday (February 1), that a search-and-rescue operation was in process, with a startling situation found at Nancy’s residence after the family called 911 around noon to report her missing.
Giving an update on Monday (February 2), the sheriff informed reporters that investigators now suspect a crime took place, calling the site more of a "crime scene" than just a "search operation." He mentioned that they are seeking the public’s assistance.
"This is an 84-year-old lady with some physical health issues, facing physical challenges, and she requires medication — medication that could be life-threatening if missed for 24 hours," he explained.
Even with her physical constraints, Nanos insisted that Nancy is mentally sound and didn't leave her residence by choice.
Nanos also noted that investigators believe Nancy was "taken from the home unwillingly, potentially during the night."
