A tragic dispute over alcohol in Dallas has left a 28-year-old woman dead and her mother behind bars. On Monday afternoon, Tabatha Jones made a final, harrowing 911 call from a home on Green Cove Lane, telling emergency operators that her mother had shot her.

When officers arrived at the scene around 3:55pm, they found Jones in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her side; she tragically passed away at a nearby hospital just an hour later.

Her mother, 49-year-old Shanika Battle, was arrested at the residence and has been charged with murder.

According to an arrest affidavit, the violence erupted following a verbal argument. Battle allegedly admitted to investigators that her daughter was "upset" because Battle had taken her alcohol.

As the confrontation escalated, Battle reportedly claimed she retrieved a .380-calibre pistol from her purse, though she insisted her only intent was to "scare" her daughter and denied actually pulling the trigger.

However, forensic evidence told a different story. Police recovered the handgun in the living room and discovered a matching bullet casing just outside the room where Jones was found.

Despite Battle’s claims that the argument never became physical, the dying declaration made by Jones during her 911 call provided a primary link for the charges.

As of Tuesday evening, Battle remained in custody with no bail yet set. Dallas authorities are continuing their investigation and have urged anyone with further information to come forward.
