Elon Musk has responded to a police search at X’s office in France and an inquiry into claims that his social media platform manipulates its algorithms and data, as well as content issues with its AI tool Grok.

Officers from France’s national cyber unit conducted a search of X’s French headquarters in Paris on Tuesday alongside Europol as part of the probe.

“This is a political attack,” Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter) late Tuesday, referencing a broader statement from the platform’s Global Government Affairs (GGA) account criticising the raid more extensively.

“The raid was widely broadcasted by the Paris Public Prosecutor’s office, clearly showing it was a misuse of law enforcement as a spectacle for illegitimate political purposes, rather than fulfilling genuine law enforcement responsibilities rooted in fair and impartial justice,” stated the GGA post.

The inquiry began in January 2025 after French politician Éric Bothorel released a report suggesting the platform tampered with its algorithms and automated data feeds.

After the raid, the Paris Prosecutor's office released a statement saying the investigation had expanded to address concerns about X’s AI tool Grok, following claims it was aiding the spread of Holocaust denial and explicit deepfake content.

The Public Prosecutor announced on Tuesday that Musk and former X CEO Linda Yaccarino have been summoned to answer questions regarding the probe at a public session in Paris on April 20.

Musk's debated social media platform is facing numerous investigations in Europe. Last month, the European Commission revealed that it is collaborating with California’s attorney general and UK regulator Ofcom on an investigation into X’s AI tool Grok and its creation of sexualized imagery.
