On Wednesday night, a police helicopter went down near a location in Flagstaff, Arizona, where officials described an "active investigation involving an officer shooting," as noted by police in Page, Arizona.

According to what investigators stated, there were no officer injuries in the gunfire exchange, CBS Phoenix affiliate KPHO-TV mentioned.

Details regarding the number of individuals aboard the helicopter or their status remain unknown, as reported by KPHO, which also noted it was a helicopter from the Arizona Department of Public Safety that crashed.

Local resident Amanda Brewer shared with the station that she heard a sequence of three gunshots, followed by two more around 8:40pm local time, prompting her to call 911. She mentioned that officers showed up in mere moments.

Brewer recounted hearing between 15 and 20 more shots afterward.

She observed the helicopter flying above her home shortly after 10 p.m. and noted that additional gunfire followed.

"You could distinctly hear the helicopter blades," she remarked. "Then, there was an enormously loud crash; it shook the house. It was quite startling."

Brewer also reported observing a significant fire in the forest area behind her property, along with hearing further gunfire following the crash.

Flagstaff police implemented a shelter-in-place for a neighborhood at around 10:15pm, as noted in a post on social media.

Flagstaff authorities haven't disclosed the circumstances that led to the police gunfire or the suspect's state, according to KPHO.
