Charli XCX reflects on working with Kylie Jenner in A24 film 'The Moment'
'The Moment' is now in selective theaters and will be available everywhere on Feb. 6
Charli XCX has opened up about the fun and effortless experience of filming Kylie Jenner’s standout cameo in her new A24 movie, The Moment, calling it one of the highlights of the shoot.
Speaking at a special screening and Q&A at Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn on February 3, Charli, 33, said she “really enjoyed shooting the Kylie scene” and noted that it was filmed separately from the rest of the movie, which began with scenes starring Rachel Sennott.
“The first scene we shot for the film was with Rachel and the last day was with Kylie,” Charli said. “So we sort of bookended with two legends, which was pretty cool … two people playing themselves.”
She praised Jenner’s presence on set, calling the experience “so fun” and highlighting how “easy and effortless” Jenner was while performing.
Vulture critic Jason P. Frank described Jenner’s cameo as “expertly-executed,” noting that she delivered her lines without irony while holding her own alongside a star-studded cast including Sennott, Kate Berlant, Rosanna Arquette, and Alexander Skarsgård.
The Moment also marks Charli’s first major leading role, a milestone she reflected on during the Q&A.
She explained that her character is “a slightly different version of my real self,” and that the story explores the “what if” moments in her career and life surrounding Brat.
Charli said her experiences navigating the music industry, including moments when labels tried to mold her, gave her material to draw on for the role.
“Whether you're an artist or not, I think we all have gone through a phase or a moment in our life where we've been through, like, a really dramatic shift or change,” she said.
She added further, “And also, I have definitely, like, screamed and smoked a million cigs in the back of a car before,” she joked of her onscreen persona.
