Craig Melvin has decided not to travel to Milan for NBC’s 2026 Winter Olympics coverage as the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, continues.

The Today co-host had been scheduled to host Olympic Late Night from Feb. 7–9, but NBC announced on Feb. 4 that Ahmed Fareed will take over those duties, while Mary Carillo will join Terry Gannon for opening ceremony coverage in place of Guthrie.

Melvin addressed the situation during Monday’s broadcast, highlighting the emotional impact on the Guthrie family. “Over the last few days, people have come out of the woodwork,” he said. “Many have reached out to say they are praying for the family. Those messages are something Savannah and the family need to hear.”

Reflecting on the difficult time, Melvin added, “My pastor used to have this saying: it’s easy to be faithful when things are going well… but the God of the mountain is the God of the valley.”

Savannah Guthrie, who was set to host the opening ceremony and report live from Milan, also withdrew from the Games.

NBC expressed support for the family, with executive producer Molly Solomon saying, “Our hearts go out to Savannah and the entire Guthrie family. They continue to have our full support.”

Authorities have not named any suspects in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasized she is believed to be alive. “She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her.”
