Is TikTok new getaway to stardom?
Lights, camera and TikTok
TikTok is rapidly evolving from a platform for short-form entertainment into an unexpected gateway to Hollywood, with studios increasingly paying attention to creators who already command loyal audiences.
The trend is highlighted by MGM+’s historical drama Robin Hood, which cast TikTok comedian Henry Rowley in his television acting debut alongside established performers.
Industry watchers say the move reflects a broader shift toward discovering talent where millions already spend their time — online.
Rowley built a following through comedy sketches that attracted millions of views before landing the role, demonstrating how digital visibility can translate into mainstream opportunities.
He isn’t alone. Social media personalities have increasingly crossed into film and television, often bringing built-in fan bases that studios can tap for instant promotion.
Addison Rae, for example, transitioned from TikTok fame to star in the Netflix teen remake He’s All That, marking one of the clearest examples of influencer-to-actor success.
Casting directors have also scouted performers directly through social feeds, sometimes prioritizing online appeal as part of a project’s marketing strategy.
As entertainment companies compete for younger viewers, the message is becoming clear: the next breakout star may not be waiting in an audition room but already performing for the algorithm.
