Madison Beer reflects on Christina Grimmie’s ‘devastating’ death
'I literally owe my life to her. I wouldn't have posted that YouTube cover if I wasn't inspired by her' Beer says
Madison Beer has opened up about the late Christina Grimmie and the profound impact the singer had on her life.
In a new interview with Who What Wear, the 26-year-old Make You Mine artist reflected on Grimmie’s tragic 2016 murder and explained how the late singer inspired her own career.
“I literally owe my life to her. I wouldn't have posted that YouTube cover if I wasn't inspired by her,” Beer said, recalling how Justin Bieber’s repost of her version of Etta James’ At Last in 2012 helped launch her career.
Grimmie, who first gained fame on YouTube in 2009, later competed on The Voice in 2014.
Grimmie was shot and killed at age 22 during a concert at The Plaza Live in Orlando, a loss Beer describes as “beyond devastating.”
“She’s, in my opinion, one of the most talented people that ever lived, and I don’t think she got the recognition I always thought she deserved,” Beer said.
The “Angel Wings” singer admitted she never got the chance to meet Grimmie in person. “I just wish she knew how much I loved her. I feel kind of sad that I never really let her know,” she added.
Since Grimmie’s death, her family has launched the Christina Grimmie Foundation, which supports families affected by gun violence.
Ahead of what would have been Grimmie’s 31st birthday on March 12, 2025, her family shared a heartfelt tribute:
“Though she is no longer physically with us, her light, love, and legacy continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
Christina’s kindness, unwavering faith, and passion for music touched lives in ways we never could have imagined. Her joy was contagious, her laughter unforgettable, and her heart was pure.”
The statement continued, “As we remember her today, we hold onto the promise that we will see her again. Until then, we cherish the memories, the music, and the impact she left on this world.”
Beer has recently released her latest album, Locket, in January, carrying forward the inspiration she has drawn from artists like Grimmie.
