Ed Sheeran is under fire for his plans to convert properties into a coastal holiday retreat, allegedly depriving locals of homes they need.

The well-known musician, 34, along with his wife Cherry Seaborn, aims to take down a dividing wall between two 19th-century terraced homes she purchased for £1.95 million last year.

Approval for the renovation in a Suffolk community was granted in November. However, the couple is facing criticism for allegedly blocking housing options for local residents.

East Suffolk council member David Beavan expressed concerns, questioning the ethics of their decision.

"We have individuals lacking homes and living outdoors," he said.

"By converting these homes, two families will miss out on housing," he explained.

The councillor mentioned such renovations could further harm the community's fabric.

Mr. Beavan urged the couple to consider renting out the properties through the council while they remain vacant.

He's encouraged the Sheerans to collaborate with the council on leasing out their property when it's not in use.
