Priyanka Chopra has revealed she has enlisted bodyguards to prevent fans from filming her and her family without permission while out in public.

The 43-year-old actress, who shares 4-year-old daughter Malti with husband Nick Jonas, explained that while she welcomes interactions with admirers, she draws the line at being secretly recorded, particularly when her child is involved.

“I am OK with being approached by anyone and taking photos, and they know that I love people coming to talk to me,” Chopra told Variety when asked about the security team seen with the couple at a recent Golden Globes celebration in Los Angeles.

However, she clarified that the presence of bodyguards serves a specific purpose. “They were there to make sure we’re not being recorded without consent. That’s my biggest thing with everyone having cellphones,” she said.

Chopra noted that incidents of strangers filming her family have become frequent, especially during private moments with her daughter.

“It happens often, especially with my daughter. We’re in the park or having ice cream, and suddenly I’ll see it online,” she shared. “My security is for that reason. Otherwise, I don’t need it. Nobody’s gonna kill me.”

The actress also reflected on her complex relationship with fame, describing it as a constant balancing act. “I’ve had a push-and-pull relationship with fame always. And I’ve kind of divided myself into two. There’s my public side and my personal side,” she said.

Her comments come after Jonas recently opened up about the couple’s emotional journey following Malti’s premature birth in January 2022 via surrogate. Appearing on the On Purpose podcast, the singer recalled that their daughter arrived months earlier than expected.

“She came to the world under, sort of, very intense circumstances,” Jonas said. “We were expecting her to arrive in April of the year she was born, and we get a call that it’s going to be sooner.”

He described the frightening moment Malti was born, weighing just 1 pound, 11 ounces. “She was purple basically,” he said, explaining that medical staff quickly stepped in to resuscitate her.

Malti ultimately spent nearly 100 days in the neonatal intensive care unit, with Chopra and Jonas taking 12-hour shifts by her side during COVID restrictions.

“These angels at the NICU resuscitated her in that moment and got her taken care of really quickly,” Jonas shared, calling the nurses “truly angels.”
