Kesha has remembered James Van Der Beek following the actor’s death at age 48 on February 11, more than a year after he announced he was battling stage 3 colorectal cancer.

The Blow singer, 38, shared two photos with Van Der Beek on her Instagram Stories in tribute, both taken at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens in Las Vegas in May 2011, a few months after he appeared in her hit music video for the song.

One photo shows Van Der Beek pointing at Kesha, while the other captures the two embracing. Kesha added a red heart emoji to both posts.

The 2011 music video, which was released as a single from Kesha’s Cannibal EP, featured a surreal party with humanoid unicorns, laser gun battles, and Van Der Beek in a comedic face-off with the singer.

Additionally, the song reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been certified five times platinum by the RIAA for selling over 5 million units.

Van Der Beek previously described working on the video as a “kick” in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, calling Kesha “a hoot” and praising her for being “the best version of who you think she would be from her music.”

His death was announced by his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, who shares six children with him.

She wrote on Instagram, “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning… He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace.”

A GoFundMe set up to support the family has already raised over $1.3 million within 24 hours, surpassing its initial $250,000 goal.

The funds are intended to help the family cover medical and living expenses and provide stability for their children.
