Teyana Taylor recalls emotional first meeting with Julia Roberts at Golden Globes

Teyana Taylor has revealed that she and Julia Roberts became “instant besties” when they first met at the 2026 Golden Globes.

The singer and actress, 35, recalled the emotional encounter ahead of accepting the Virtuosos Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Feb. 8, weeks after her big night at the Golden Globes held at The Beverly Hilton.

“Everybody knows that I love Julia Roberts. I’m obsessed with her,” Taylor said of the 58-year-old Oscar winner. 

According to Taylor, the two crossed paths during a break in red carpet filming. When Roberts was brought over, Taylor admitted she immediately became overwhelmed.

“I started backing up and my eyes were watering,” she said, joking that she warned Roberts not to come any closer before ultimately diving into her arms. “We was like instant besties. She’s my bestie in my head, even if she don’t know it.”

The moment became even more special when Taylor won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Perfidia in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. 

She said Roberts stood up to applaud her win, prompting another heartfelt hug. “I was definitely crying,” Taylor admitted.

Beyond her Golden Globes triumph, Taylor has been celebrating a standout awards season. 

At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, she was honored with the Virtuosos Award for her performance in One Battle After Another, marking another milestone in her acting career.
