Timothy Very, Manchester Orchestra drummer, dies at 42
Very was a founding member of Waking Ashland, a San Diego-based rock group formed in 2003
Timothy Very, longtime drummer for Atlanta indie rock band Manchester Orchestra, has died at the age of 42.
The band confirmed his sudden passing in a heartfelt Instagram statement on Saturday, describing him as a beloved member of their musical family. No cause of death has been disclosed.
“The entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very,” the group wrote.
They described Very as someone who radiated warmth, kindness and humour, adding that his presence was foundational to the band’s spirit and community.
According to the statement, Very had a natural ability to connect with people, turning strangers into friends and fostering a deep sense of belonging within the band’s circle.
Band members emphasised that while music was his passion, his greatest joy came from being with his family.
They remembered him as a devoted father whose positivity and energy left a lasting impact on everyone around him.
Before joining Manchester Orchestra full time, Very was a founding member of Waking Ashland, a San Diego-based rock group formed in 2003.
He later became Manchester Orchestra’s drummer after contributing to their 2011 album Simple Math, eventually replacing drummer Jeremiah Edmond.
Very’s passing marks a significant loss for the band and the broader indie rock community.
