Apple Martin gets candid about acne struggles and mom Gwyneth Paltrow’s advice
Apple says her worst breakouts during COVID impacted her confidence
Apple Martin has opened up about her skin struggles and the well-intentioned guidance she received from her mom, Gwyneth Paltrow
In a recent appearance on Vogue’s Beauty Secrets series, the 21-year-old model offered an unfiltered look at her acne journey, revealing that some of her most difficult breakouts took a toll on her confidence.
“My acne is not crazy crazy,” Apple explained. “But it definitely affected my self-esteem.”
The daughter of Paltrow and Chris Martin shared that during a particularly challenging period in 2020, her Oscar-winning mother turned to her wellness circle for guidance.
“My mom definitely gave me advice. God bless her,” Apple said with a laugh. “She would ask all of her super ‘Goop-y’ people about where I should go visit.”
That search led to multiple dermatologist appointments before Apple found a routine that worked for her.
“You find a good, chill skincare routine, and, like, drink a lot of water,” she advised. “And honestly, the more that you stress about it, the worse it'll get, most likely.”
She noted that the height of her breakouts coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic a silver lining that allowed her to navigate the experience more privately.
“Luckily, the worst it got was during COVID, so I could kind of hide it,” she said. “Now, I’m just kind of like, I’m human. What am I gonna do if I have a pimple? It’s not the end of my life.”
Encouraging others to adopt a similar mindset, Apple added, “Honestly, I think that everyone is still gorge, and if you wake up and you have a new pimple, just be like, ‘Alright. That’s what today’s gonna be like.’”
In a separate clip shared by Vogue, Apple also addressed speculation surrounding cosmetic procedures. “It’s time to come clean,” she said, revealing she tried lip filler once at 18. “I just thought that it was too big. But everyone seems to think that I have crazy lip filler. I just pout my lips a lot and I put on a lot of lip liner.”
Apple has steadily stepped into the public eye in recent years. She made her fashion week debut at Paris Fashion Week in January 2023, sitting front row at a show for Chanel, and has since carved out her own style identity.
“I love sweaters and oversized cardigans, loafers, and a good pair of comfy Levi’s,” she previously told Vogue.
“The most important thing for me is feeling like my genuine self when wearing an outfit; I'm aiming for a mix of classic ’90s and cool grandpa.”
Most recently, Apple appeared alongside Paltrow and her brother, Moses Martin, at the New York City premiere of Marty Supreme in December.
