Taylor Swift introduces Team USA’s 'Blade Angels' in Milan
Taylor Swift describes the Blade Angels as "showgirls on ice" in a viral video
Team USA’s figure skating stars have received the ultimate pop-star endorsement as Taylor Swift introduced the trio ahead of their Olympic spotlight in Milan.
In a stirring video shared on Monday, Swift unveiled Amber Glenn, Alysa Liu, and Isabeau Levito as the "Blade Angels".
Using her signature storytelling, the singer described them as “three American showgirls on ice,” a clever nod to her latest album.
Swift highlighted the unique resilience of each athlete. She praised 26-year-old Glenn’s grit, noting: “Her superpower now is embracing the fight and daring the world to test her self-belief.”
Turning to Liu, who famously returned from retirement, Swift remarked that “joy fuels her now,” while calling 16-year-old Levito “destiny personified” due to her deep family roots in Italy.
The Blade Angels are set to take the ice for the Women's Short Program on Tuesday, 17 February, followed by the Free Skate on Thursday.
Despite their different paths—from Glenn’s mastery of the triple axel to Liu’s newfound passion—the trio share a profound bond.
Glenn admitted her journey was a “long, very difficult road,” while Levito emphasised their collective spirit.
“We all have the same passion for the sport and have very aligned goals of wanting to do our best, and once we do that, we’re all happy, regardless of who beat who,” Levito told the L.A. Times.
With Swift’s backing and a shared nickname, these skaters are ready to turn the Milan rink into their own centre stage.
