The world of cinema is united in grief following the death of Robert Duvall at 95, with Hollywood’s elite leading a wave of heartfelt tributes.

The Oscar winner, whose career spanned seven decades, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday.

His wife, Luciana, shared the news on Facebook, writing: "Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort."

Adam Sandler, who worked with Duvall on the 2022 film Hustle, remembered him as "Funny as hell. Strong as hell," adding that he was "One of the greatest actors we ever had."

Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Curtis honoured his legendary performance as Tom Hagen, calling him "The greatest consigliere the screen has ever seen."

Alec Baldwin also shared a moving video, reflecting on Duvall's silent but "arresting" debut as Boo Radley. He noted that Duvall "completely shatters you" as a viewer, even "without a single word of dialogue."

Duvall’s legacy is defined by a deep commitment to truth in his craft. Luciana touched on this in her statement, noting: "For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented."

Despite his immense fame, the actor remained grounded in his later years, telling PEOPLE in 2021 that he simply enjoyed life "day to day with my wonderful wife."

He leaves behind an unforgettable body of work and a widow who described him as "simply everything."
