Tesco has issued an urgent nationwide recall of its Grape & Berry Medley after concerns that some batches may be contaminated with salmonella, a potentially serious foodborne bacteria. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned customers not to consume the affected punnets, which have use-by dates of 16 and 17 February 2026 and weigh 230g. Shoppers can return the product to any Tesco store for a full refund, with no receipt required.

Salmonella infection can cause vomiting, severe stomach cramps, diarrhoea, and fever within hours of consumption. While most people recover without medical treatment, it can be dangerous or even fatal for young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. The FSA advises anyone experiencing symptoms to stay away from work, school, or nursery for at least 48 hours after becoming symptom-free, to prevent further spread.

This is part of Tesco’s own-brand range, sold across the UK, and comes amid rising salmonella cases, with UK Health Security Agency data showing a surge in early 2025. Ready-to-eat chilled foods, such as salads and fruit punnets, can be especially risky if contaminated, as the bacteria can survive on surfaces and multiply without proper hygiene or storage.

While supermarket-related outbreaks are rare, similar recalls have happened in recent years. In June 2022, hundreds of chicken products from major retailers were pulled due to salmonella, and last year over 60 sandwiches, wraps, and salads were recalled over STEC contamination.

Customers with questions can contact Tesco directly via tesco.com/help/contact. For now, the FSA urges shoppers: do not eat the affected Grape & Berry Medley.
