Cardiologist reveals biggest myth about heart attacks

In the high-stakes world of emergency cardiology, Dr Sanjay Bhojraj has seen too many patients blindsided by crisis.

The US-based expert is now on a mission to debunk the "biggest myth about heart attacks"—the idea that they strike without warning.

Instead, he insists that cardiac issues are usually the result of a silent, years-long build-up that simply goes unnoticed.

"I’ve treated enough patients to tell you this with certainty: The problem is not that heart disease appears suddenly. It’s that it progresses silently. Most people don’t realise they’re at risk until something forces them to," Dr Bhojraj shared on Instagram.

Having spent years performing emergency procedures, he grew tired of hearing patients say they never saw it coming. He argues that the warning signs are almost always present in the data, provided someone is actually looking.

The cardiologist is now challenging the "standard" medical check-up, where numbers are often glossed over if they fall within "normal" ranges.

He urges patients to ask their doctors for a more forensic look at their health. "When was the last time someone truly reviewed your numbers with you? Not just ordered labs. Not just glanced at a chart. Not just said 'everything looks okay'," he questioned.

By focusing on inflammation markers and blood pressure trends today, patients can predict their health fifteen years into the future. His message to those who currently feel perfectly healthy is a sobering one: "Don’t wait for your body to get louder."
