Reese Witherspoon has paid heartfelt tribute to Robert Duvall, describing the late Hollywood icon as a “wonderful gentleman” following his death at age 95.

The 49-year-old actress starred alongside Duvall in the 2008 romantic comedy Four Christmases, and reflected on the experience in a touching message shared to her Instagram Stories.

“I feel very lucky that I got to work with Robert Duvall in this lifetime,” Witherspoon wrote. “What an extraordinary actor … and a wonderful gentleman.”

She added that his impact on cinema will endure for generations. “His legacy will live on through his wonderful performances. God rest his soul.”

Duvall, whose career spanned decades, was widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s most revered performers.

He delivered memorable roles in classics including The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, True Grit and The Apostle, the latter of which he also wrote and directed.

Witherspoon’s tribute joins a wave of remembrances from fellow actors who worked closely with the Oscar-winning star.

Jane Seymour recalled collaborating with Duvall on the 1995 drama The Stars Fell on Henrietta, praising his ability to completely inhabit his roles.

“There are actors who perform, and there are actors who inhabit a role completely. Robert Duvall did the latter,” Seymour wrote, reflecting on both his on-screen brilliance and off-camera warmth.

She shared memories of bonding over barbecue and even dancing tango, adding that he will be “greatly missed.”

Meanwhile, Walton Goggins, who appeared alongside Duvall in The Apostle, described him as the “greatest storyteller of all time.”

In an emotional social media post, Goggins called Duvall his mentor and “North Star,” crediting him with shaping his life and career.

“The privilege of getting to work with this man, to know this man is still the most important experience of my life,” he wrote.
