Vivo launches V70 with blocky design, stellar street photography lens
OriginOS comes to international markets with AI tools and a customizable interface on the V70
Vivo has returned with the V70, the latest model in its prolific V series, bringing a blockier new design, a versatile camera system, and OriginOS to mid-range buyers.
The V70 departs from the curvy design of previous models, opting for a flat 6.6-inch OLED screen with slightly smaller dimensions than its predecessor’s 6.77-inch panel. Combined with a wider aluminum frame, the phone offers better one-handed usability and a more secure grip.
Camera
The phone’s 50-megapixel main camera uses a Sony LYT sensor, with the same aperture and sensor size as the V60. The 50-megapixel portrait lens is unchanged, but continues to deliver impressive results, producing images reminiscent of vintage cameras. The combination of hardware and Vivo’s image processing yields rich tones, natural contrast, and vibrant colors that outperform many higher-priced Samsung and Apple flagships.
The V70’s camera module now sits on a metallic “camera island,” a design trend that many other Chinese manufacturers have adopted recently. While the look is familiar, it complements the phone’s blocky design well.
OriginOS
Perhaps the most significant change is the switch to OriginOS, replacing FunTouchOS for international markets. Previously limited to China, OriginOS offers customizable widgets, a flat aesthetic, and interactive features. A standout addition is the Origin Tool Kit, which allows seamless connection to Mac computers for file transfers and screen mirroring.
The system also includes AI-powered tools like an “audio eraser” that isolates voices or music and removes background noise—features common on other flagship devices but notable in a mid-range phone.
Performance and battery
Under the hood, the Vivo V70 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, capable of handling most tasks with ease. A 6,500 mAh battery ensures excellent endurance, making the phone ideal for photography enthusiasts who want long-lasting performance without spending $1,200-plus on premium models.
Verdict
The Vivo V70 continues the brand’s streak of camera-focused mid-range smartphones, now enhanced with OriginOS and a larger battery. For anyone seeking high-quality street photography and reliable daily performance without the flagship price, the V70 is an attractive option.
