Timothée Chalamet reunites with Christopher Nolan years after 'Interstellar'
The 'Dune' star recalls feeling like a teenager again while reuniting with Christopher Nolan
Timothée Chalamet has reminisced about his early days on set with Christopher Nolan, admitting their recent reunion left him feeling like a teenager all over again.
The 30-year-old Oscar-nominated actor reunited with Nolan, 55, ahead of an IMAX 70mm screening of Interstellar at the historic Los Angeles Theatre on Feb. 13.
Chalamet, who was a teenager when he played Matthew McConaughey’s son in the 2014 sci-fi film, recalled the director’s playful antics during the event.
“The whole experience with Nolan, I felt totally like 17 again,” Chalamet said. “I went home, it was shocking ... That was a crazy car ride home for me. I was like, ‘Holy sh-t, I feel like the 13 years that elapsed haven’t elapsed.’”
Chalamet described a hilarious moment backstage: “We were taking pictures together … and he throws me in a headlock and starts giving me a noogie. I’m like, ‘Holy sh-t, Chris Nolan’s hitting me with a noogie right now.’ I said to him, ‘Chris, I’m a 30-year-old man.’ He said, ‘Not to me, you’re not.’”
The reunion, part of the Cinespia event celebrating its 25th anniversary, allowed Chalamet to reflect on the film that launched his early career.
“Though my role is not enormous in Interstellar, I think I was number 12 on the call sheet this film came to me at a time in life, in my career, where things were certainly not set yet,” he shared. “And it’s remained my favorite project I’ve ever been in. It’s the film I’ve seen the most of, of all the films ever made in human history.”
Interstellar also starred Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, Mackenzie Foy, Michael Caine, and McConaughey, earning five Academy Award nominations and winning for Best Visual Effects.
Since his Interstellar debut, Chalamet has become one of Hollywood’s most celebrated young actors.
He earned critical acclaim and his first Best Actor nomination for Call Me by Your Name, followed by nominations for portraying Bob Dylan in the 2024 biopic A Complete Unknown and his role in 2025’s Marty Supreme.
At 30, he became the youngest actor since Marlon Brando to receive three Best Actor Oscar nominations.
