Janell Shirtcliff has broken her silence following the death of her boyfriend, Eric Dane, sharing an emotional tribute just two days after the actor’s passing.

The former Grey's Anatomy star died on Thursday, Feb. 19, at age 53, nearly 10 months after publicly revealing his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

His family confirmed that he passed away following what they described as a “courageous battle” with the progressive neurodegenerative disease.

On Saturday morning, Shirtcliff, 42, posted a series of intimate photos and videos to her Instagram Stories honoring the late actor.

The images captured quiet, personal moments between the couple, including two photographs of Dane kissing her, a smiling selfie of the pair, and a video of them singing together while driving along rugged terrain framed by dramatic cliffs. Another photo showed Dane appearing joyful as he seemingly received a tattoo.

The tribute marked Shirtcliff’s first public statement since Dane’s death. The pair had made their red carpet debut together at the Countdown premiere in Los Angeles in June 2025.

Dane was legally married to actress Rebecca Gayheart during his four-year relationship with Shirtcliff.

Gayheart had filed for divorce in 2018 but later called off the proceedings in March 2025, saying the decision was rooted in teaching their daughters the importance of “showing up for family.”

In a statement shared with People, Dane’s family confirmed his passing.

“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” the statement read.

“He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the centre of his world.”

The statement also highlighted Dane’s advocacy work following his diagnosis, noting that he had used his platform to raise awareness and support research for ALS.

“He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always,” the family added, requesting privacy as they navigate their loss.
