A Florida community is reeling after Gabriel Hubbert, 45, a father of six and a devoted church leader, was shot and killed outside his home on Friday, Feb. 20.

According to Miami Gardens police, officers responded around 6:30 p.m. to reports of a shooting on 213th Street.

Hubbert was found suffering multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Authorities said a suspect fled the scene in a white van and was later taken into custody on Saturday night, Feb. 21.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured the van driving past Hubbert’s home shortly before the shooting.

Hubbert’s death has left family, friends, and neighbors in shock. A vigil was held outside his home, where loved ones lit candles and shared memories of the man they described as kind, forgiving, and devoted.

“He didn’t have a hurt in his heart for people,” Hubbert’s wife, Guerla, told WPLG. “They would do him wrong, and he would still forgive them.”

His younger brother, Joshua Hubbert, called him “brother Gabe” and remembered him as a mentor and pillar of the community. “If he could help you, he’d help you,” Joshua said. “He was a good person. You would never think of anything like that happening to him.”

Hubbert was deeply involved in his church, Full of Faith Ministries in Hollywood, Fla., where he served as a worship leader.

In a tribute shared on Facebook, the church remembered him as a man of “sincerity, humility, and passion” whose faith and leadership touched countless lives.

“Gabe carried a heart of true worship not just through his voice, but through his life,” the post read. “His spirit was pure, and his impact on our church family will live on in every song we sing and every life he touched.”

The Hubbert family expressed their heartbreak as the investigation continues. “I learned how to love just by my husband,” Guerla said. “The guy who shot him, I pray for your soul.”

The Miami Gardens Police Department has not released further details about the suspect or a possible motive.
