Winona Ryder joins Netflix’s 'Wednesday' season 3 alongside Jenna Ortega
No release date has been announced yet, but fans can stream seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix
Netflix has officially announced that Golden Globe winner Winona Ryder will join the cast of its hit supernatural series Wednesday, reuniting with Jenna Ortega and longtime collaborator Tim Burton for the upcoming third season.
The streamer revealed on Monday, Feb. 23, that Ryder, 54, will play a character named Tabitha, joining Chris Sarandon (Balthazar), Noah Taylor (Cyrus), Oscar Morgan (Atticus), and Kennedy Moyer (Daisy). Eva Green, previously announced, will portray Morticia Addams’ sister, Ophelia.
Production for the new season has already begun near Dublin, Ireland, with showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar promising “new students, new teachers, and long-rotting Addams Family secrets.”
“I'm so excited to be back for Season 3 and it’s great to be reunited with all of the original cast,” said Burton, who serves as executive producer and director of the series. “The addition of some dear friends and past collaborators of mine, Winona, Eva, Chris, Noah…makes this season extra special. I feel very lucky.”
Gough and Millar described the new season as their “dark delight to fling open Nevermore Academy’s gates once more.” They thanked fans for their “ravenous online commentary,” noting that viewer theories have inspired some of the season’s eerie twists.
Ryder’s role marks a reunion with Ortega, with whom she starred in the 2024 film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and with Burton, her longtime collaborator on projects including Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissorhands (1990), and Frankenweenie (2012).
Green, Sarandon, and Taylor also bring previous connections to Burton’s iconic works, enhancing the season’s nostalgic and supernatural appeal.
Ortega, 23, previously praised Ryder as “warm and welcoming and kind and inviting” during a 2024 podcast interview, adding, “The way Winona and I got along was quite weird. It was like we were reading each other’s minds a little bit.”
A release date for Wednesday season 3 has not yet been announced. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
