As Robert Carradine‘s family and fans grieve the actor’s passing at the age of 71, his Lizzie McGuire castmates are honoring his memory.

After his family shared that Carradine died by suicide following a two-decade battle with bipolar disorder, the Disney Channel series cast reacted to the news and fondly recalled his “enduring fatherly support” during the show's production, where he portrayed Lizzie’s dad, Sam.

“I am heartbroken today,” expressed Jake Thomas, who played Sam’s son Matt. “I have been lucky to know Bobby for most of my life. He was one of the coolest people you could ever meet—humorous, practical, sometimes moody, and always a bit quirky.

“He was a gifted actor, musician, and director. But above all, he was like family. I've cherished many memories with him and his family throughout my life—joyful times, difficult times, and countless laughter.”

Thomas added, “I admired him as I grew up. And later in life, I realized he thought I was pretty special, too. So, I must have been doing something right in his eyes. My thoughts are with Marika and Ian. Rest easy, Bobby. Love you. – ‘Jaker'

Lalaine, who was Lizzie’s best friend Miranda Sanchez, shared in a post, “This doesn’t seem right. I’m a mess right now. However, I’m grateful—grateful I got time with you, grateful for our final conversation, and your unwavering fatherly support. I love you, Bobby.”

Carradine was a star on Lizzie McGuire during its two seasons from 2001 to 2004 and also appeared in the 2003 movie.

He returned to the role in a cancelled Disney+ revival series, which filmed two episodes before it was discontinued.
