‘Days That Shocked The World’ sold to WBD in EMEA
Warner Bros. Discovery acquires the historical documentary series 'Days That Shocked The World' for EMEA
Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has acquired the historical documentary series Days That Shocked The World for the EMEA region, where it will revisit significant events such as Fukushima, Chernobyl, and 9/11.
As the 15th, 40th, and 25th anniversaries of these events draw near, WBD has secured rights to air specials on these tragedies.
Sky New Zealand has also acquired Days that Shocked the World.
Created by Britespark, Days that Shocked the World revisits impactful disasters from the past four decades, presenting the narrative through firsthand accounts and archival footage in one- or two-part special episodes.
These specials will broadcast on WBD channels throughout Europe around the anniversary dates, starting in March with the Fukushima episode, and will be available for streaming on discovery+ and HBO Max in select areas.
HBO Max will be expanding to more regions in the coming months, including the UK.
The series is distributed by BossaNova Media, which has also negotiated deals for Deadline Global Breakout Ed Gein: Original Psycho with Hearst Networks and DPG.
This two-part docudrama, based on reenacted transcripts of Gein’s confessions from November 1957, brings the interrogation to life using generative AI alongside an actor’s portrayal of the leading detective.
Paul Heaney, head of BossaNova, stated: “Securing major channels highlights the caliber of producers like Britespark that we collaborate with. Stories that resonate globally and locally hit the perfect mark for distribution.
Days that Shocked the World offers worldwide relevance — from 9/11 and Chernobyl to the Concorde tragedy and Fukushima — events that continually impact lives today.”
These sales announcements coincided with the London TV Screenings, where BossaNova is among several boutique sales companies hosting events.
