Halle Berry shares bedroom philosophy after years of putting others first
The 'Catwoman' star says she no longer puts a partner’s needs before her own in the bedroom
Halle Berry has opened up about her one non-negotiable rule in the bedroom, revealing that she no longer puts a partner’s pleasure above her own.
The 59-year-old Oscar-winning actress spoke candidly on the Sex With Emily podcast about changing the way she approaches intimacy after years of prioritizing her partners.
“We had to get there so that he felt good about bringing us to orgasm,” Berry explained. “We had to say that we did it so that he would feel good about himself.
"Because what is that doing? That’s putting his needs before our own. I’m like, ‘No, I come first like you come first to you.’ We both deserve to have this be a mutually enjoyable experience, so we both can roll over and go to sleep feeling good not one snoring and the other one looking at the ceiling, going, ‘What the hell?’”
Berry, who has previously been married to David Justice, Eric Benet, and Olivier Martinez, praised her fiancé, musician Van Hunt, for their strong connection.
A source recently told People that Berry had never intended to marry again but felt ready after Van’s proposal.
“She loves him so much, though, and he makes her incredibly happy,” the insider said. “She feels very fortunate. She’s excited to be engaged.”
The couple, together for five years, is planning a small, intimate wedding with their closest friends and family, though a date has not yet been set.
Reflecting on past experiences, Berry also shared how working with James Bond star Pierce Brosnan on 2002’s Die Another Day helped restore her “faith in men.”
She told Wired, “He will always be my Bond, always. I’m a Pierce Brosnan fan. He restored my faith in men on that movie. There couldn’t be a human who is more of a gentleman than Pierce Brosnan.”
For Berry, intimacy now comes with mutual respect and enjoyment, a shift from her earlier relationships.
“It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex,” she told Marie Claire in 2024. “That has never happened to me, ever. Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical.”
