Uber engineers build AI version of CEO to rehearse big presentations
90% of Uber’s software engineers now incorporate AI tools into their daily responsibilities
What many customers see as a ride-hailing and food delivery platform, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi views as something more fundamental: a vast technology engine powered by engineers.
According to Khosrowshahi, the company’s technical teams are not just supporting operations — they are actively building and shaping the business itself.
In a recent appearance on The Diary of a CEO, hosted by Steven Bartlett, Khosrowshahi revealed that some teams have taken their innovation a step further.
Engineers have reportedly created an AI chatbot modeled after him, informally dubbed “Dara AI.”
The tool is used internally to simulate how the CEO might respond to presentations before teams bring their proposals directly to him.
Khosrowshahi explained that by the time a project reaches his desk, it has usually been refined through multiple rounds of feedback.
Using the AI version of him allows teams to test their slide decks, anticipate tough questions, and sharpen their messaging in advance.
The approach reflects how deeply artificial intelligence has become embedded in Uber’s workflow.
He also noted that roughly 90% of Uber’s software engineers now incorporate AI tools into their daily responsibilities.
About 30%, he said, are advanced users who are fundamentally rethinking how the company’s systems are structured.
According to Khosrowshahi, the impact on productivity has been unlike anything he has witnessed before, signaling a major shift in how technology companies operate and evolve.
