Grey’s Anatomy has aired a moving televised tribute to Eric Dane following the actor’s death on 19 February at the age of 53.

In the first episode since his passing, the ABC drama honoured the man behind the iconic Mark “McSteamy” Sloan with a montage set to a haunting rendition of Chasing Cars.

The reel revisited his most legendary moments, from his disruptive Season 2 arrival to his journey becoming a father and his deep bond with Callie Torres.

The tribute poignantly included his on-screen soulmate, Lexie Grey, and featured Mark’s famous advice to Jackson Avery: “If you love someone, you tell them, even if you’re scared that it’s not the right thing, even if you’re scared that it will burn your life to the ground, you say it you say it loud.”

It concluded with footage from Dane’s 2021 return during Meredith’s beach dream sequences, where he urged her to survive. “Don’t waste one single minute,” he tells her before the screen fades to a final dedication.

In a twist of fate, Dane died exactly twenty years to the day after his first episode aired in 2006, following a brave battle with ALS.

His legacy remains woven into the show’s fabric, not least because the fictional hospital still bears his character’s name.

This farewell served as a final embrace from the Grey’s family, celebrating a performer who brought equal parts charisma and heart to the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial for nearly two decades.
