Shia LaBeouf arrested in New Orleans, judge orders rehab amid legal troubles
The actor’s release now includes a $100,000 bond and rehab requirement
Shia LaBeouf has been ordered to enroll in substance abuse treatment and undergo drug testing following his recent arrest in New Orleans.
The 39-year-old actor was taken into custody earlier this month after an altercation during the city’s Mardi Gras celebrations.
LaBeouf was charged with two counts of simple battery and released hours later, but a judge has since imposed new conditions on his release, including a $100,000 bond and mandatory rehab.
Judge Simone Levine confirmed that allegations of LaBeouf using homophobic language were not included in the official court record at the time of his initial release.
The judge’s updated order requires the actor to attend substance abuse treatment as part of his conditions.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, the incident occurred on February 17 at a Royal Street business.
Officers said LaBeouf became increasingly aggressive after staff attempted to remove him from the establishment.
Once outside, he reportedly struck one victim multiple times with his fists and later punched a second individual in the nose. Multiple people attempted to restrain him until police arrived.
LaBeouf was taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries before being formally arrested.
This incident adds to the actor’s history of legal troubles and struggles with addiction, underscoring the court’s focus on rehabilitation as part of his release conditions.
