Megan Thee Stallion to play zidler in eight-week Broadway engagement
The 'Mamushi' singer will play club owner Zidler in an eight-week Broadway run beginning March 24
Megan Thee Stallion has taken her career to new heights, announcing her Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
Taking on the role of club owner Harold Zidler for a limited eight-week engagement from March 24 through May 17.
The 31-year-old star, born Megan Pete, called the opportunity “an absolute honour,” describing the move to theatre as the next step in her creative evolution.
“Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honour,” she said.
“I've always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I'm excited to embrace.”
Best known for chart-topping hits and her 2020 debut album Good News, Megan acknowledged that Broadway presents a different kind of challenge.
“Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling,” she said. “But I'm up for the challenge and can't wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.”
Her foray into theatre follows continued acclaim for her Prime Video documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, directed by Nneka Onuorah.
The film explored her personal and professional journey, including the aftermath of the 2020 shooting incident involving rapper Tory Lanez.
Onuorah previously praised the rapper’s resilience, calling her “the definition of strength.”
“Most of us say we're strong, but we've never had millions of people every day lying on us, saying negative things about us,” the director told TIME. “I commend Megan for her resilience throughout this process to still come out on top.”
The documentary delves into grief, depression and public scrutiny, offering what Onuorah described as an “open book into her heart during one of the hardest times of her life.”
