Brenda Song opens up on the one conspiracy theory she actually believe
The actress credits Cosmos and deep-sea fish as proof of life beyond Earth
Brenda Song has never shied away from exploring the unknown, and when it comes to conspiracy theories, there’s one idea she can’t completely dismiss: extraterrestrial life.
“I definitely believe that there are other beings outside of humans in our universe,” the 37-year-old actress told People while promoting her new film, Operation Taco Gary’s, which follows a pair of brothers who stumble into a global conspiracy.
“I remember reading Cosmos for the first time — I love Carl Sagan — and it blew my mind. The universe is so vast, and we can’t even measure outside of it. How do we know? We just can’t say for sure.”
Song, who rose to fame on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, said her fascination with the cosmos extends to the ocean, citing “deep sea fish” as evidence for life beyond Earth. She even shared her theory with fiancé Macaulay Culkin, 45, who wasn’t entirely convinced.
“I was really tired one night and said, ‘I don’t understand how people don’t believe in aliens. Just look at our deep sea fish,’” Song recalls. “He laughed and said, ‘Honey, do you hear how crazy you sound?’”
Despite Culkin’s skepticism, the couple remains united, especially when it comes to supporting Song’s new project.
Culkin attended the Los Angeles premiere of Operation Taco Gary’s on Feb. 24, joining Song and their two sons, Dakota, 4, and Carson, 3.
For Song, the absurdist comedy — starring Dustin Milligan, Simon Rex, Jason Biggs, Tony Cavalero, Arturo Castro, and Doug Jones — was a liberating creative experience. “You aren’t trying to please a higher power, and it’s also really fun,” she said.
“Once the movie is made, people get to see if it’s a film they can get behind — and it truly is the movie you wanted to make.”
