Demi Lovato opened up about how she has learned to party without alcohol, sharing that sobriety has become “second nature” as she prepares to hit the road again.

The 33-year-old singer, who has long been candid about her sobriety journey, spoke exclusively with People while partnering with cactus water brand Caliwater to launch its new blood orange flavor.

Ahead of her upcoming tour, Lovato said she no longer feels out of place skipping alcohol on a night out.

“I’ve just become so accustomed to it that it’s second nature for me,” said the Grammy-nominated artist. “I haven’t drank so long, so I don’t even remember what it was like going out drinking.”

Instead, the “Here All Night” performer focuses on creating an environment that helps her avoid social anxiety. That starts with sticking close to trusted friends.

“I would never go out without my friends. I think that would probably make me a little anxious,” she explained, adding that surrounding herself with “good vibes” and “the right people” makes all the difference.

Lovato also shared a practical tip: always have a drink in hand, just not an alcoholic one.

Whether it’s water or a mocktail, she said the ritual helps ease social pressure. She’s particularly fond of using Caliwater in alcohol-free cocktails, calling it “great for making mocktails.”

The partnership feels organic for the singer, who said she has been a fan of the brand since its early days. Actress Vanessa Hudgens and entrepreneur Oliver Trevena co-founded Caliwater.

“Cactus water is so amazing because it’s rich in antioxidants, it’s very hydrating,” Lovato said. “I drink it daily because one, I’m just a huge fan of the product, but two, it’s so good for you.”

Hydration is especially top of mind as Lovato gears up for her It’s Not That Deep Tour, which kicks off in April in support of her October album, It’s Not That Deep.

With a demanding performance schedule ahead, she said staying hydrated will be key.

“It’s great for me because I’m about to go on tour, and I’ll need to hydrate my body, stay hydrated, and it’s going to be perfect for that,” she added.
