Leonardo DiCaprio to miss actor awards despite leading role nomination
The Actor Awards will stream live Sunday on Netflix
Leonardo DiCaprio will not be attending Sunday’s Actor Awards, despite earning one of the night’s top nominations.
PEOPLE can confirm that the Oscar winner, 51, will be absent from the ceremony formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards as he is currently filming director Martin Scorsese’s upcoming feature, What Happens at Night, in Europe.
The film, which also stars Jennifer Lawrence, marks the pair’s latest collaboration following 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
DiCaprio is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of activist Bob Ferguson in One Battle After Another, director Paul Thomas Anderson’s politically charged action thriller.
He is in contention alongside Timothée Chalamet, Marty Supreme, Ethan Hawke, Blue Moon, Michael B. Jordan, Sinners, and Jesse Plemons, Bugonia.
Although he won’t be present on Sunday, DiCaprio has been a prominent presence throughout awards season.
He recently attended the EE BAFTA Film Awards in London, where he was nominated for Best Leading Actor.
While that prize ultimately went elsewhere, One Battle After Another took home Best Film, with DiCaprio joining costars including Teyana Taylor and Benicio del Toro on stage to celebrate.
The film has continued its strong run, winning Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) at the 2026 Golden Globes and Best Movie of the Year at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards.
DiCaprio is also nominated for Best Actor at the upcoming 98th Academy Awards, where the film earned 12 additional nominations, including Best Picture.
With his sixth Best Actor nomination, he ties the record previously set by Richard Burton and Daniel Day-Lewis.
