Anthropic is simplifying the transition to its Claude AI from other chatbots by providing an update that makes Claude’s memory functionality available to users on the free plan, as well as a new prompt and specified tool for integrating data from other chatbots.

These enhancements enable users previously relying on platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini to easily transfer the data gathered by their favorite AI to Anthropic’s chatbot.

This eliminates the need to “begin from scratch” in reintroducing Claude to contextual histories already known by their previous chatbot.

The ability to both import and export memories from Claude has been in place since October, when Anthropic launched the option for users to activate Claude’s memory.

Until now, this memory feature was accessible only to those on paid Claude subscriptions, but now all Claude users can activate it through “settings,” followed by “capabilities.”

Within this menu, users will also locate the novel memory import tool, which involves copying a pre-set prompt into their former AI, then transferring the output from that prompt back into Claude’s importing tool.

Anthropic presents the improved memory import tool as Claude is gaining traction, fueled by features like Claude Code and Claude Cowork.

Last month, Anthropic introduced its latest Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 models, which are reported to handle coding and execute intricate tasks, such as navigating spreadsheets or filling forms, more effectively.

Anthropic has also been drawing increased attention lately following its stand against pressure from the Pentagon to relax restrictions on its AI models, affirming that they have set firm limits against mass surveillance and fully autonomous lethal weaponry.
