‘Evil Dead’ star Bruce Campbell opens up about cancer and upcoming treatment plans
The actor says he’ll postpone conventions and appearances to focus on his health
Actor Bruce Campbell has shared that he has been diagnosed with a type of cancer that he describes as “treatable” but not “curable,” and says he will focus on treatment over the coming months.
The 67-year-old star, best known for his iconic role in the Evil Dead franchise, announced the news in a post on X on Monday, March 3.
“I apologize if that’s a shock; it was to me too,” he wrote. “The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this because professionally, a few things will have to change appearances and cons and work in general need to take back seat to treatment.”
Campbell said he plans to “get as well as I possibly can over the summer” so he can resume touring this fall to promote his upcoming movie Ernie & Emma.
However, he acknowledged that several fan conventions scheduled for the summer will have to be canceled.
“Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand,” Campbell wrote.
“That’s about it. I’m not trying to enlist sympathy — or advice — I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).”
He concluded by expressing gratitude to his fans and highlighting the strong support system surrounding him during this time.
